MEET THE ARTIST:
Ann Brugenhemke is a visual artist currently living in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Ann is a diverse artist who makes oil paintings, pastel drawings, mixed media work and ceramic sculptures.
Themes running through her 2D work over the past few years have included local landscape and flora with a keen and intimate perspective on form, as well as dynamic forces of nature such as the sky during a storm or the play of light on objects in their natural habitat.
Ann uses high-contrast palettes and bold color mixing to emphasize the drama and power of nature. Her images are strong compositions which capture movement and force.
For her 3D work she uses clay, often paired with wood, hardware and other materials to create unique and vibrant kinetic sculptures.
Currently Ann is working on a series of 2D works that feature the essence of place in abstract form by using layers of paint like a veil over an underlying image.
Ann lives and works in her studio at Harvester Artist Lofts with her daughter and her dog in Council Bluffs, IA.
