ARTIST BIO
Susan Woodord grew up in Southern Maryland, in an environment shaped by world politics, which deeply influenced her artistic journey. Her exposure to the complexities of war, human suffering, and the casualties both at home and abroad inspired her to pursue the healing arts and create sculptures that embody peace and hope.
Susan’s work in rehabilitative arts spans a variety of endeavors, from conducting workshops with veterans to creating hospital installations that depict strength in brokenness. She uses materials such as metal, stone, and glass to craft organic and figurative forms that reflect humanity’s resilience.
Her neo-feminist work features a rugged, avant-garde aesthetic, where she hand-cuts, laser-cuts, and assembles sculptures in her 1,800-square-foot studio on 32 acres of land. A unique aspect of her process is the use of sacred smoke to ionically cleanse metals and realign elements after extrusion, a practice that imbues her materials with intention. Mindfulness about the message and content of her art is as important to her as honoring the resources she uses, and she strives to minimize her carbon footprint. As a steward of the land and materials, Susan is dedicated to creating meaningful messages that endure beyond her lifetime and challenge social norms.
Her Art Farm Studio, located in the Midwest, serves as a base for other sculptors to immerse themselves in nature for extended stays. Susan also works in North Carolina, Arizona, and Sacramento, California. Team-building activities are available at all of her studios, and she ships internationally.
