photography

30" H x 20" L

ARTIST BIO:

Butch received an Associate of Arts Degree in Photography from Elgin Community College in Elgin, Illinois, where [he/she/they] also held a student photography show. He continued [his/her/their] photography education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

Among his accomplishments, he was a finalist for the National Young Artist Grant Award in 1984. Four of his photographs were published in the book Nebraska, The Good Life Grows by the Nebraska Quasquicentennial Commission in 1991. From 1991 to 2015, [he/she/they] operated a photography business, Plain Label Photography.

His work has been accepted into numerous art exhibitions from 1985 to 2025 in cities including Kearney, Hastings, Lincoln, Bellevue, Gering, Omaha, Norfolk, Benson, and David City (all in Nebraska), as well as Sioux City, Iowa; Hays, Kansas; and Mansfield, Ohio. Two of his photographs were published in Nebraskaland Magazine (2021, 2022), and he has held three solo photography shows in Omaha (2012), Benson (2018), and Norfolk (2020/2021).

ACCOLADES

Butch's photographs have received Cash Awards and Honorable Mention recognitions in juried competitions at both the Hays Arts Center in Hays, Kansas, and the Norfolk Arts Center in Norfolk, Nebraska. A particularly rewarding moment in his career came when Nebraskaland magazine contacted him to request permission to publish two of his photographs—one featured as a full-page display and the other as a full two-page spread. His work was also included in the book Nebraska, The Good Life Grows, and as a selected contributing photographer, he was invited to participate in the book signing event held in Lincoln, Nebraska. For Butch, it is deeply humbling to know that when his photography is on display, individuals choose to spend their hard-earned money to purchase his artwork.
